Test Preparation
Maximize your potential (and your college opportunities).
My Approach to Test Prep
Every student has their own strengths and weaknesses. I’ll put together a unique, personalized plan to make sure that we get the most out of every minute you spend working towards test success.
Why prepare?
Think about it. You spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 35 weeks a year busting your butt in school. All those years of hard work count about as much as a 3 hour test you take one Saturday morning. Standardized tests might not be be the best measure of future success, but they’re a great way to put in a little effort now to get a huge payoff later.
Dr. Stephan’s Test Prep Process
For such an intimidating test, my process for teaching the SAT and ACT is straightforward. First, make sure students are familiar with the format and content of the tests. This gives students confidence. Second, identify any knowledge gaps and fill them. This gives students skill. Third, practice and rep these skills - and official practice tests - until the knowledge becomes internalized. This gives them the ability to perform on test day. Like playing a sport or an instrument, practice makes perfect. With standardized tests, it’s no different.
Tests Tutored
The SAT and ACT are the tests that I tutor for most frequently. However, I also tutor a variety of similar tests at both the high school and middle school level. If there’s a test out there, I’ve likely seen it (and taken it). Here are the most common, but feel free to get in touch if there’s something you need and don’t see here.
